The Fantastical Piece Hall through Print & Press

Posted On: 7 Dec 2016

Over its almost 250year history, The Piece Hall has been home to the weird, wonderful and fantastical. Displays from the world-famous tight-rope walker Blondin and an elephant parading through the town are just a couple of the famous moments captured in print and press.

The Fantastical Piece Hall through Print and Press is an 11week introductory course exploring a range of illustration and printing techniques applied to both paper and fabric. No experience is necessary.

The course will explore images and articles from The Piece Hall’s archives, reimagining and retelling stories of Halifax’s magnificent grade I listed building. Inspired by Joanna Neborsky’s illustrations of Félix Fénéon’s 3 line novels, lead artist Harriet Lawton will deliver hands-on printing and drawing exercises resulting in the creation of your own beautifully unique one-page story.

Techniques include:

  • drawing and illustration
  • printmaking
  • monoprint
  • screen print
  • letterpress

Each student will receive one to one technical support from experienced tutors. Materials are included.

Cost: £73, or free if you are in receipt of some income based benefits (please see the WEA website link by clicking here for details)
