Rear View: Free Creative Writing Workshops

This year The Piece Hall welcomes internationally-renowned and Halifax-based IOU Theatre to present a new show, Rear View. Returning to the road in 2018, the streets of Halifax will become the stage and you’re invited!  Themes of the show include: identity and place, memory and recollection, friendship, imagining the future and reimagining the past.

Before the performance in April, IOU are offering free workshops at The Piece Hall.

Creative writing workshops

We would like to invite you to take part in a free thought-provoking creative writing workshop with experienced writer-performers Cecilia Knapp or Jemima Foxtrot (one facilitator per workshop) where participants can create stories about their home town and explore memories and experiences. Suitable for all abilities, recommended age 8+yrs.

  • Free one hour workshop led by one artist
  • Up to a maximum of 20 participants per session
  • Accessible and appropriate for participants 8 years+, any ability

The workshop theme is based around participants engaging with an area of their town through a piece of creative writing that explores its history and significance. This will be an opportunity to explore memories, identity and the self in relation to a place and how it defines and influences them. The workshops will include exercises to describe and engage with the local area, as well as uncovering memories and associated experiences.

Performances of Rear View will take place at The Piece Hall on 12-15 April 2018 and tickets can be booked via our Box Office by calling 01422 525217. Please note the performance is only suitable for age 11+
