Andy Sheppard’s Saxophone Massive is an epic performance where a huge number of local and regional saxophonists will perform a spectacular musical fanfare to mark the reopening of The Piece Hall, Halifax.

YOUR CHANCE TO TAKE PART...

Following a multi-million pound transformation, The Piece Hall will reopen this August and now is your chance to join the celebration, with a unique opportunity to be part of the opening performance.

Written and led by UK saxophonist and composer Andy Sheppard, Saxophone Massive is a large scale participation project that provides the opportunity for saxophonists of all ages and abilities to perform en masse in public spaces and unusual places.

We are looking for professionals, amateurs, teachers and beginners to perform in this ambitious show alongside world renowned jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard.

An international phenomenon, Saxophone Massive has been performed in cities across Europe including in the UK, France and Norway and will now be commissioned for Halifax. 

This event is part of Welcome, a free festival of international art and culture that celebrates the reopening of The Piece Hall, taking place between 18 August – 2 September 2017.

Rehearsal dates:
Tuesday 20 June: 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Tuesday 11 July: 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Saturday 12 August: 10.30am – 3.30pm
Thursday 17 August: 6.30pm – 8.30pm (Dress rehearsal)

Performance date:
Friday 18 August: 7.30pm (approx.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a sign up donation of £10?
The Piece Hall Trust is a registered charity, donations help us to do the work we do. The sign up donation will help pay for T-shirts, rehearsal spaces and other costs.

What is the minimum age to particpate?
The suggested minimum age is 8 years old.
Perfomers aged 8 - 16 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult at rehearsals and the event.
Performers aged 16 - 18 will need a guardian’s consent to take part.

Where are rehearsals?
The first three rehearsals will take place at Square Chapel Arts Centre, our neighbours on Blackledge.
The dress rehearsal and performance will take place at The Piece Hall.

What if I can't make a rehearsal?
We hope you will be able to make all the rehearsal dates. If you do need to miss one please speak to Jo Fullman, click here to email Jo, or call her on 01422 525219.

When will the event take place?
Saxophone Massive will be performed to a public audience on Friday 18 August 2017.
Performers to arrive at 6.30pm
Performance will be approximately 7.30pm – 9pm

How much does it cost to join?
We ask participants to make a donation of £10 towards the event. In return you will receive a Saxophone Massive T-Shirt to wear at the event and keep as a momento.

What do you need to know about me?
Shortly after registering, you will receive an email that will ask you to provide some further information.
The information we ask for will include details about what saxophone you play (soprano, alto, tenor or baritone), how you would describe your level of proficiency (beginner, intermediate, competent, advanced), and whether or not you can read music.
