Halifax-born Andy Barron has a long-standing connection with The Piece Hall, dating back to 1970 when his family had a stall at The Piece Hall’s wholesale market. Andy currently works for J Sainsburys in the Online Shopping team. Outside of work, he can be regularly found riding his bike around the area or walking around the many different shops here at The Piece Hall, where he will utilise his knowledge of The Piece Hall’s past to help shape and strengthen its future.

When did you first visit The Piece Hall?

I was a young boy when I first started coming to The Piece Hall in the early 1970’s. My family used to be stallholders here for a number of generations when it was a wholesale market.

How has The Piece Hall changed over the years?

The Piece Hall has evolved from a local place to become a truly national, if not global visitor attraction.

What’s your favourite shop at The Piece Hall to spend time in?

There are many of course! The Piece Hall is such a unique space, I love nothing more than having a couple of hours walking round the many different shops we have here. I’m a frequent visitor at Al’s Emporium, The Handmade Gift Shop is my go-to place for gifts and I’ve drunk many coffees at Loafers!

Which events hosted at The Piece Hall did you particularly enjoy?

I really enjoyed the premiere of ZARA – which featured a giant mechanical baby, an army tank, cherry pickers and 3D illuminations, and I was fortunate enough to get tickets for my daughter and I to see Embrace perform live at The Piece Hall.

What makes you proud to be an ambassador for The Piece Hall?

For me it was simply being asked to take on this role by The Piece Hall Trust, and knowing that they value my input in shaping The Piece Hall’s future.
