As an important outdoor community space, we are listening to the Chief Medical Officer’s advice every day to ensure that The Piece Hall can continue to be a safe place for people to enjoy.

We would like to reassure you that we take public health and safety very seriously. As we welcome a wide range of visitors, we have taken a number of important measures in recent weeks to ensure that we protect our staff, tenants and customers. Staff and volunteers who are more at risk from the illness have self-isolated and we are working closely with tenants to ensure that any infection would be reported to the Trust. Those who can work from home have been assigned to do so with immediate effect and we have introduced more regular cleaning regimes around well-used public spaces and surfaces, using products that kill the virus.

Given the most recent government announcement about social distancing, there is no doubt that we, like others are going to have to change the way we operate for the foreseeable future. We are working closely with our tenants to establish how we can do that safely and continue to stay open. We will share details daily on our social media channels.

As an example of this, in order to ensure that social distancing can take effect, our Trust-owned food and beverage outlets are encouraging people to take away food and drink and enjoy it on the courtyard or elsewhere rather than consume on the premises. We are also developing extended take away and delivery menus, encouraging contactless payments and reminding people to wash their hands often. We expect that our tenants will be introducing similar practices in their independent businesses and we will publish details as this develops.

We will deliver some of our proposed events e.g. learning with schools, via online channels and we’re working to develop virtual workshops and talks wherever possible. In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines, a range of activities which cannot be delivered in this way have regrettably been postponed. This mainly affects events scheduled to take place in March and April, as well as the Tour de Yorkshire in May, which our partners Welcome to Yorkshire have sadly but understandably postponed. Drop-in group tours will not be running until further notice.

This applies to all Friday, Saturday and Sunday tours. Our regular craft and toddler socials are also on pause for now.

We will keep you informed here and via our social media channels as and when events are rescheduled, or if any other events are postponed. If you have a booking for a ticketed event, rest assured we will be in touch with you individually.
