The Piece Hall is ‘the best thing about Halifax’

The Piece Hall has been named the best thing about Halifax by local people who took part in a survey carried out by the Halifax Courier. The ‘Love Your Town’ survey asked readers for their views and opinions on their hometowns.

Eight out of ten people also thought that The Piece Hall benefits both Halifax, and the neighbouring towns around. The support from visitors, organisations and the team working behind this local landmark can be attributed to the success seen.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, Chief Executive of The Piece Hall Trust, was over the moon with the feedback received.

She said “It’s just incredible that the people of Halifax and Calderdale are proud of The Piece Hall and are saying that, because that’s exactly how we want them to feel.

The great success of The Piece Hall is down to the huge combined effort of so many.  A great team, great Board and the Council and Heritage Lottery Fund who had a great vision. I would also like to thank our tenants and volunteers who work incredibly hard to make this a really special place.

There’s a lot to be proud of already – our recent big gig weekend was just outstanding – and it makes us more determined to keep building on what we’re doing and creating more exciting reasons for the town and region to be proud of their Piece Hall.”

The range of independent and local businesses on offer at The Piece Hall could also be behind the positive responses, as 89% of people who took the survey reported to enjoying eating and shopping in Halifax’s independent shops, with several adding they preferred supporting independent businesses.

These comments are even more impressive considering that The Piece Hall only officially reopened in August 2017, following an extensive transformation and conservation project. The second anniversary event for The Piece Hall will be taking place on 1st August this summer, aptly coinciding with Yorkshire Day in celebrating the best of Yorkshire.
