The Piece Hall’s courtyard was brought to life with delicious world foods, live music and family activities at The Jo Cox Foundation’s Great Get Together.
This free event aimed to bring people together to celebrate kindness in line with Jo’s ethos that we have more in common than that which divides us, and was part of The Piece Hall’s wider programme of post COVID engagement to support the community in recovery, building friendships, and reducing isolation.
Teams of volunteer chefs from St Augustine’s Centre for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, Sisters United, Light Up Black and African Heritage Calderdale, Food4All, and Morrisons cooked over 1000 free community meals. Ingredients were donated by The Real Junk Food Project and The Piece Hall’s veg suppliers.
Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary added a vibrant programme of entertainment, with music, poetry and dance performances on the bandstand. Children and families took part in hands-on creative activities and tried their hand at weaving on a huge frame.
