It’s Always Ourselves We Find In The Sea
Illustrious Company is proud to present IT’S ALWAYS OURSELVES WE FIND IN THE SEA, an immersive sound installation exploring the pan-cultural human relationship with water.
The installation is designed by internationally renowned sound artist Martyn Ware, and immersive designers Anna Söderblom and Oscar Blustin and kindly sponsored by Monitor Audio.
Lasting roughly 30 minutes, the experience offers a meditative sound journey in an atmospheric setting.
Using cutting-edge 3D sound technology and experiential immersive techniques, IT’S ALWAYS OURSELVES WE FIND IN THE SEA is based on the waters of the world – in music, ambient sound, ritual, story and myth – showing how seemingly separate strands of storytelling in fact link and bind us all together. With an emphasis on collective response to the climate emergency, the installation is a way for visitors to feel themselves part of the greater tapestry of humanity, inspired by the necessity of far-reaching global change.
IT’S ALWAYS OURSELVES WE FIND IN THE SEA invites visitors into a contemplative space, a quiet, peaceful temple to water, within which the soundscape exists. Listeners enter and explore the space in their own time, letting the sounds wash over them, experiencing the stories and musical motifs as they build and gather then subside like the tide.
Open daily from 4 April until 4 May in The Piece Hall Gallery, from 11am until 5pm. Entry is free.
