The Piece Hall Trust Annual Review 2021-22
Our Annual Review for 2021-22 covers the post lockdown period which saw The Piece Hall re-open as quickly and safely as possible, facilitating both emotional and economic recovery for the people of Calderdale.
Harnessing the power of heritage, arts and culture to bring joy while preserving this precious asset for the future The Piece Hall re-established its position as a premier destination, once again delivering world class entertainment and a quality visitor experience.
The year saw the installation of a hugely impactful international sculpture exhibition, the arrival of some true A-list Hollywood stars as the courtyard was used as a film set for a leading global film company, and the signing of a 5-year deal with one of the biggest entertainment companies on the planet.
Our events programme focused on recovery and re-connecting with the community, with a Ramadan Month of Giving Campaign, The Piece Hall’s first ever Eid celebration and The Jo Cox Foundation’s Great Get Together during Refugee Week, which saw eight community groups cook over 1000 free meals for local people.
Seasonal Makers Market’s returned, supporting local artisan traders by showcasing some of the region’s favourite independent craft stalls, and thousands played for free during the summer when the courtyard was transformed into an urban beach complete with deckchairs seaside sound effects.
People rediscovered their dancing feet with sensational sell out gigs from local lockdown stars Ellie Sax and Dale Castell. Live at The Piece Hall saw our biggest season of live music concerts to date, featuring iconic acts like The Specials, New Order, Manic Street Preachers & Kaiser Chiefs, attracting more than 40,000 people into Halifax and Calderdale.
Recovery got well underway during the 12 months with more than 2 million visitors, taking the overall footfall since the transformation was completed in 2017 to more than 9.8 million.
